An Ordinance to amend the Chinese Emigration Ordinance, 1889.
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Chinese Emigration Amendment Ordinance 1907 and shall be read and construed as one with the Chinese Emigration Ordinance 1889 hereinafter called the Principal Ordinance.
2. Section 2 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by the addition of the following definition :
"Assisted emigrant" means any Chinese male labourer who has entered or agreed to enter into a contract to labour for hire in some place beyond the limits of the Colony on the terms that he is to receive assistance in the way of payment of passage money subsistence or otherwise to enable him to perform his contract.
3. Section 21 (a) of the Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by substituting for the words from Hongkong to a specified port in South Africa and back thence to Hong Kong, the words "from a specified port in China to a specified port in South Africa via Hongkong and back from South Africa to such specified port in China."
4. Section 83 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by the insertion in the first line of sub-section (1) of the words "who is an assisted emigrant or "between the word "passenger "and the word "under" and by the addition at the end of sub-section (2) of the following proviso:—
Provided that whenever it may appear desirable the Governor-in-Council shall have power to direct that the provisions of sub-section (2) may be dispensed with in the case of passengers travelling to any British Possession.
5. Section 58 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by the substitution in the first line of the words "assisted emigrant" for the words "Chinese passenger' and by the substitution in the second line of the words "Registrar General" for the words "Emigration Officer" and by the deletion of all words in the section after the words "Registrar General" in the 7th line.
6. Section 59 is hereby amended by the substitution for the last six words in sub-section (1) of the words "assisted emigrants ".
7. Section 60 is hereby amended by the substitution for the last 5 words in sub-section (1) of the words "assisted emigrants."
8. Section 61 is hereby amended by the substitution in the first line of sub-section (1) of the words "assisted emigrant who is an" for the words "Chinese male" and by the deletion of all words between the word "house" in the second line of sub-section (1) and the word "who" in the third line of the same sub-section and by the deletion of the words "or her "in the fourth line of the same sub-section and by the deletion of the whole of sub-section (3).

Ordinance, 1889.
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-
